Party Safe for a Safe Party
Everyone enjoys going to, or hosting a party. For young people it is certainly a part of growing up and celebrating special occasions with friends. While most parties are fun for everyone involved, intoxicated guests or gatecrashers can sometimes ruin the occasion. The Queensland Police Service (QPS) has a number of resources to assist people host and enjoy a safe party season. The QPS Party Safe information provides some ideas to assist in holding successful, enjoyable and safe parties for everyone concerned including hosts, parents and guests.
The Party Safe resources include a brochure outlining safe party tips if you are hosting a party, attending a party or letting your children attend a party. A Party Safe Checklist is also provided for party hosts to ensure that everyone has a successful, enjoyable and safe party.
A Party Safe registration form is also attached to the brochure, so that a party can be registered with the police. Registering a party, at least one week beforehand, will provide the police with the details they need to know if they are called to a party to deal with an incident.
The registration form, along with all the Party Safe information, is available from a local police station or from the internet at www.police.qld.gov.au/party. Other resources available include a general information poster and ‘registered party’ poster. The ‘registered party’ poster, displayed at the time of a party, will let everyone know that it has been registered with the police.
These resources have recently been updated based on the recommendations of the Queensland Government’s Safe Youth Parties Taskforce.
Naturally, the Party Safe information is provided as a guide only. The QPS can not guarantee that reliance on the information will prevent any loss, injury, damage or other adverse incident from occurring during, or in connection with a registered party. Always remember, if you are unable to handle a situation, call your local police or, in an emergency or life threatening situation, call triple zero (000).
