The Report Card is Out

The NHW program plays a vital role in ensuring that Queensland is a safer place to live. The efforts that each of you make to achieve this outcome has been outstanding. Often people ask me (and probably you), how do we measure the success of the NHW program?.

Whilst the response I provide is very exhaustive, I have provided an example below that hopefully reveals the ‘bigger’ picture and provides each of you with some encouragement. (Sergeant Steve Batterham – NHW State Coordinator)

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) 2005/06 Annual Statistical Review was released on the 2 November 2006 by the Premier Peter Beattie, Police Minister Judy Spence and the Police Commissioner Bob Atkinson. Some key highlights of the Review were:

  • Qld remains a safe place to live, with the state’s overall crime rate remaining stable in the 2005-2006 financial year;
  • Offences against the person and offences against property decreased by a combined rate of 3% in the past year;
  • 2% increase in the crime clear-up for offences against the person and offences against property in the last financial year;
  • Proactive and targeted police initiatives has led to increase in the number of offences detected in other offences
    • 9% increase in the rate of good order offences, which includes disorderly conduct and offensive language; and
    • 5% increase in the rate of drug offences; and
  • Overall rate of crime in Qld has been on a downward trend over the last few years.
