How do I access Police Photographs?

What type of information does the QPS Photographic Section release?

The Photographic Section is responsible for releasing all police photographs, closed circuit television (CCTV) footage, police video and offender identification photographs (mugshots), under certain conditions.

How to make an application

If you are seeking to access to police photographs, CCTV, video and offender identification photographs relating to yourself or a police incident in which you were involved, you can apply under the Police Administration Act.

An application must be made:

  1. By completing the approved form Application for Access or Disclosure of QPS Information (Application for Access or Disclosure of QPS Information|45415|application/pdf 44KB) accompanied by sufficient identification.
  2. Provide sufficient information concerning the incident in which you are applying for images.
  3. Specify an address for notification of a decision.

Fees & Charges

Application Fee
There is no application fee for requesting Police Photographs.

Access Fee
The following charges apply for photographic material:

Photographs - $15.20
Additional Prints - $8.10
Mug Shots - $6.65
Video - $12.00 per DVD or $23.65 per 1 hour VHS tape
Audio Cassette/DVD - $13.70

Form of Payment
Cheque or money order made payable to the Queensland Police Service.

Time taken to process applications
You will receive written response to your application within 30 business days of the Service receiving your application. Processing times are dependant on individual applications.

Reviewing a decision
If you are dissatisfied or "aggrieved" with the decision of the Service you can apply to the Service for an internal review of its decision.

To apply for an internal review of a decision you must apply in writing within 20 business days of receiving a written response.

Applications for review should be addressed to:

Your internal review will then be referred to a senior officer for a decision.
