Queensland has experienced strong growth in police numbers over recent years. This has been essential to keep pace with Queensland’s rapid population growth. Queensland’s police to population ratio for 2009-10 was 1:434.
Attrition and separation rates
In the 2009-10 financial year, 350 police officers separated from the Service—a separation rate of 3.4%. The 2009-10 permanent retention rate for police officers was 96.6%.
The retention rate for permanent civilian staff member employees was 91.6% and the separation rate was 8.4%.
During 2009-10:
- no employees accepted redundancy packages
- six employees accepted early retirement packages
The total value of these packages was $784 641.10.
Retrenchments
There were no employees retrenched in the 2009-10 financial year.
Since 2004-05, the number of police has increased by 1 447 or 16%.
Secondments
As at 30 June 2010, there were 181 police officers seconded to other agencies to perform law enforcement
