4.5 Director, Office of the Commissioner

The roles and functions of the Office of the Commissioner are to:

  • Provide strategic advice to the Commissioner and members of the Senior Executive
  • Manage Cabinet and Executive Council matters on behalf of the Minister and the Commissioner
  • Initiate and coordinate policy development on issues of strategic importance to the Service
  • Coordinate and support the strategic planning, performance management of the Service by conducting the Service’s Environmental Scan, coordinating the development of the four yearly QPS Strategic Plan and Asset Strategic Plan and the annual review of plans
  • Prepare the Service’s principal accountability reports, including the Agency Service Delivery Statement, the Annual Report, Periodic Reports to Queensland Treasury; the Report on Government Services , and Blueprint for the Bush
  • Coordinate or conduct surveys related to the Service’s performance, including the bi-annual Statewide Activity Survey, National Survey of Community Satisfaction with Policing, and a biennial Crime Victims Survey 
  • Manage the Service’s Client Service Charter and Commissioner’s Suggestion Box
  • Manage the Service operational performance and improvement through Commissioner’s Operational Performance Review and Operational Assistance Teams
  • Engenders continuous improvement and strong leadership to develop, implement and coordinate a Service-wide cohesive, and quality policing response to Domestic and Family Violence
  • Oversee the management and governance of the Service’s major projects and services
  • Promote and maintain an effective working relationship between the Service and Indigenous and multicultural communities through:

- Providing advice service to Service personnel on cultural matters

- Ensuring that policies and programs are appropriate to the needs of Indigenous
 and multicultural communities; and

- Maintaining effective communication with these communities

  • Manage Ministerial correspondence and briefings
  • Administer the Service’s Honours and Awards system
  • Maintain the Handbook of Delegations and Authorities, the Register of Executive Directions and the Register of Communication between the Commissioner and the Minister; and
  • Provide support for various Service and inter-jurisdictional forums, including the Senior Executive Conference and Board of Management.
