Police Wide Load Escorts
10 August 2014 last day for old work diaries
The following is a reminder contained in the latest “NHVR Industry Update” (2 July 2014).
Please note that 10 August 2014 is the last day that heavy vehicle drivers, required to complete a work diary, can use the old work diary. By 10 August 2014 drivers need to be using the new National Driver Work Diary.
The new work diary is easier to complete and includes more detailed advice on fatigue laws and guidance on how to count time. There is no requirement to complete the old work diary before using the new one, so drivers should start using the new one as soon as possible.

The Queensland Police Service in partnership with the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads and stakeholders from the Trucking Association and Pilot Association recognizes the difficult tasks required for personnel involved in the transport of over-dimensional loads in the State of Queensland.
As a result, in consultation with these stakeholders the Heavy vehicle Road Operations Program Office was established to provide a high standard of service that promoted consistency in the assessment and issuing of permits in a timely manner and to provide information to the Transport industry regarding legislative requirements and procedures.
The Performance Guidelines issued by the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) are the governing rules and regulations specific to vehicle requirements and driver requirements for all vehicles involved in the transport of over-dimensional loads. This includes truck drivers and pilot and escort drivers.
NOTICE - All applications requiring police escorts are to be submitted no later than three (3) full working days for a single-trip permit (one day) and five (5) full working days for any trip longer than one (1) day prior to movement.
To cancel a wide load from Brisbane after hours please contact Policelink on 131444. In other areas contact you’re nearest Police Communications Centre or 24 hour Police station. For after-hours emergencies, or if a booked police officer has not attended, also contact your local Police Communications centre or 24 hour police station.
Emergencies only: 0400535587
The supply of all staff for wide load escorts is the responsibility of the Region the load is leaving from. The HVROPO is NOT responsible for the staffing arrangements made by Regions to fill these duties.
As from the 10th of February 2014 the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator will commence operations for all heavy vehicle movement access requests in Queensland. The QPS will NOT issue any police permits for excess dimensional vehicles from 10th February 2014. ALL applications after this date must be made through tmr.qld.gov.au/nhvr.
