National Police Remembrance Day
Every police officer—past and present—as well as their friends and family, has felt the burden of sacrifice. For 137 men and women of the QPS, the ultimate sacrifice was made when they gave their lives in the execution of their duty.
The bravery and sacrifice of these officers is honoured each year on September 29 during National Police Remembrance Day (NPRD) with vigils, marches and memorial services across the state.
Each year, QPS’ Mounted Unit takes great pride in participating in the annual NPRD march, as they lead serving officers and staff through the streets of Brisbane.
Mounted Unit officers take great care in preparing the horses for the march, brushing their coats and grooming their manes like they would for the most regal of occasions.
Participating officers also don the ceremonial uniform for the march, reflecting the importance and respect for the day that is held in the hearts of many.
