    Weapons registered to a Business Licence can only be transferred if you are the sole operator/representative of the business.

    If there is more than 1 representative of the business, a permit to acquire is required.

  1. Details of Transfer

    In cases where business licences are issued to a representative on behalf of a partnership or limited company, such businesses are subject to the permit to acquire process, should they wish to transfer a weapon.

    Accordingly, applicants should follow the process required pursuant to Section 40 of the Weapons Act 1990.

Supporting Documentation

You may also be required to provide supporting documentation. Refer to specific requirements below.

Category H weapons transferred to a concealable firearms licence for sports or target shooting.

  • A letter/certificate from a shooting club stating that you are a current member of the club; and need to use the weapon(s) to engage in shooting activities as a member of the club, or in shooting activities of an approved shooting club affiliated with the club; AND
  • The barrel length of the intended weapon.

Category H weapons transferred to a collector's licence.

For temporarily inoperable collectable or modern collectable category H weapon(s)

  • A declaration signed by an approved historical society's representative stating that the representative is satisfied that the weapon(s) is of obvious and significant commemorative, historic, thematic or investment value;
  • Correspondence/supporting documentation from you outlining the obvious and significant commemorative, historic, thematic or investment value; AND
  • Proof of membership of an approved historical society (refer to note 1 below)
    • Note 1: Proof of membership includes:
      • A completed QP 517 Approved Historical Society declaration; OR
      • A letter, on club letterhead, from the Historical Society or a photocopy of your membership card confirming you are a current member of the historical society, your membership number and the expiry date of your membership. This information can also be included on the declaration signed by the club representative.
    • Note 2: Your licence must be endorsed for the collection of temporarily inoperable category H weapons. If your licence is not endorsed accordingly, you must also provide the following information to enable the endorsement of the licence prior to any application for transfer of a weapon(s) being considered.
  • For collectable handguns
    • A completed QP 517 Approved Historical Society Declaration.
  • For modern handguns
    • Correspondence outlining your prolonged and genuine interest in the study, preservation or collection of firearms; and
    • A completed QP 517 Approved Historical Society Declaration.
  • For permanently inoperable handguns
    • A Form 31 Certificate of a Firearm/Weapon being Permanently Inoperable signed by a licensed armourer or a person approved by the Commissioner.

Heirloom firearms

  • Proof, to satisfaction of the authorised officer, that you are the owner of the firearm because of a testamentary disposition or the laws of succession.

    1. Please note: File size limits apply and all photographs need to be either in a jpg, jpeg or png format, and other documentation to be in either PDF, Microsoft Word or Excel, where there is a limit of 4 items with the size of each file limited to 1MB. If you attempt to upload a photograph/document greater than 1MB or an incorrect file type, an error message will appear and the photograph(s)/document(s) will need to be re-attached.

    1. The reason(s) outlined in the application are genuine and necessary reason(s) for my transfer of weapon(s)
    2. Please note: it is an offence to state anything in the document kept, given or made under the Weapons Act 1990 that a persons knows is false or misleading.
    3. Maximum Penalty 100 penalty units or 2 years imprisonment.
    4. The collection of this information is authorised by the Weapons Act 1990. This information will be used for the administration and enforcement of the Weapons Act 1990. The Queensland Police Service may disclose some or all of this information to other State and Federal Government agencies as provided for by the legislation or in accordance with the Information Privacy Act 2009.
