​Ensure you are aware of the general requirements for applying for a weapons licence.

You can now apply online for a Group Licence, submit all the documents and pay using credit/debit Mastercard or Visa.

You can still apply for a licence using a paper application form. You will need to submit it along with the required documentation and payment at a police station.

Below you will find the supporting documentation requirements and specific information to apply for a Group Licence. Failure to submit all the required documentation will result in delays in processing your application.

Occupational (category A, B, C, D, H & M)

To apply for this type of licence, you must provide the following documents with your application:

  • Proof of address (rates notice or electricity bill are preferred)
  • Statement of Attainment for an approved weapons safety course
  • A letter on company letterhead containing the following information:
    • The position held by the author of the letter in the company/business
    • Authorisation for the applicant to be the representative for this application; and 
    • Details of activities which warrant the use of weapons.
  • A copy of the current registered business or company name providing details of the type of enterprise (e.g. sole proprietor, partnership etc), including the extract detailing the office holders of the company/business.  If the applicant is a shooting gallery operator, provide details of the shooting gallery approval number
  • Details of the storage facility where weapons are to be stored and its compliance with legislation; and
  • Current passport-quality photograph.

Shooting Club (category A, B, C, D & H)

A group licence may be issued to an individual or a body and can include the same authority as a firearms licence, a firearms licence (instructor) or a concealable firearms licence, for genuine reasons such as sports or target shooting or firearms instruction.

To apply for this type of licence, you must provide the following documents with your application:

  • Proof of address (rates notice or electricity bill are preferred)
  • Statement of Attainment for an approved weapons safety course
  • A letter on letterhead club containing the following information:
    • The position in the club held by the author of the letter
    • Authorisation by another member of the club governing body for the applicant to be the representative for the application
    • Details of activities which warrant the use of weapons; and
    • Where and how weapons are to be stored
  • Details of the shooting club approval number
  • Details of the storage facility where weapons are to be stored and its compliance with legislation
  • Details of any other club members, officers or employees who may provide additional storage, including storage address; and
  • Current passport-quality photograph
