This licence may only be issued for a Category E (bulletproof vest or body armour) or Category M weapons (including crossbows, some martial arts weapons and some historical or military weapons).
Applicants wishing to possess crossbows for Sports or Target shooting, Recreational shooting or Historical or Military Re-enactment should apply for this type of licence.

Note: Section 41 of the Weapons Regulation 2016 stipulates which Category M weapons can be licensed:
- a Category E weapon; or
- a Category M crossbow; or
- a Category M weapon mentioned in Weapons Categories Regulation 1997, section 7A(h) or section 7A(j) (a “martial arts weapon”); or
- a Category M weapon mentioned in the Weapons Categories Regulation 1997, section 7A(i) or section 7A(m) (a “historical or military weapon”).
A holder of a Miscellaneous Licence must take reasonable precautions to ensure that weapons under the licence are not accessible to persons who are not lawfully entitled to physically possess the weapons.
