The Community Safety Champions (CSC) Program is a Queensland Police Service (QPS) initiative designed to empower residents to promote community safety and crime prevention. The program recruits trusted, locally connected individuals actively engaged in their communities through paid work, volunteer roles, or their social activities.
Participants are provided with educational materials covering a variety of community safety and crime prevention topics, along with access to QPS-endorsed resources to share within their networks. By spreading awareness and knowledge, Community Safety Champions play a vital role in fostering safer and more resilient neighbourhoods.
Program Delivery
The pilot program was delivered in Cairns and Toowoomba, and expanded further in Cairns, Rockhampton, the Sunshine Coast and Toowoomba.
The next program enrolment will be offered to Neighbourhood Watch Queensland volunteers only.
It will kick off approximately December 1, 2025, with a 2-week break for Christmas and New Year.
Each week Community Safety Champions will be required to:
- Watch a 10 – 15minute online video on a community safety topic.
- Review the corresponding Chapter in the Community Safety Champions Toolkit. The toolkit provides useful tips and tools to support information sharing.
- Utilise the supplied Resource Pack of digital resources and bonus materials each week.
Community Safety Champions will receive:
- Weekly email and online video.
- Community Safety Champions Toolkit.
- Digital Resource Pack including a range of shareable resources and bonus materials.
- Hard copy Safer Together resources with a focus on property security, personal safety, cyber security, and senior’s support.

Enrolment in the CSC Program is limited. To be considered for acceptance, applicants must satisfy eligibility criteria as outlined in the Expression of Interest Form and Program Guidelines and Code of Conduct.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Who can be a Community Safety Champion?
We’re looking for community-minded Queensland residents who are:
- 18 years or older.
- Involved in community through their paid work, volunteer role or social activities.
For example: Community leaders and Elders, health service providers, faith-based organisations, school groups, not for profit organisations, community groups, social clubs, and sports clubs. - Passionate about community safety.
- Willing to raise awareness and share QPS-endorsed community safety information.
- What kind of time commitment is required?
The program is designed to be flexible, with no mandatory hours and minimal time commitment. The online videos and supporting resources can be accessed at your own pace and at a time that works for you. If you miss a week, that’s okay, they are available to revisit whenever it suits you. The online videos are short and concise, running for a maximum of 15 minutes, making it easier to fit the program into your schedule.
- How do I share information and resources?
Information can be shared in a variety of ways, depending on what works best for you and your networks. Some examples include:
- One on one or group conversations with clients.
- Informal conversations with friends, family, and neighbours.
- Incorporating information into community presentations.
- Sharing information and resources with work colleagues. For example, in a shared online folder or in fortnightly team meetings.
- Placing flyers in shared spaces for community members to access or handing them out at social events.
- Sharing posts on social media (don’t worry, we provide you with plenty of social media tiles and suggested messaging to share)
- Sharing safety and security tips in e-newsletters (we give you some examples of these as well).
There are no expectations as to how (or when) Community Safety Champions share information. How you chose to engage with your network is entirely up to you. Once the 8-week program is over, you will still have access to all the resources and tools provided to continue sharing with your networks.
- What if I don’t have time to share resources?
The CSC Program is designed to be flexible and supportive. While we encourage participants to engage with their networks during the 8-week program, there’s no requirement to share resources within a set timeframe. The program provides you with tools, knowledge, and QPS-endorsed materials that you can tap into when you need it, even after the program has ended. Whether it’s during the program or months later, you’ll have ongoing access to the resources to support community safety conversations when the time is right for you.
- What are the benefits of becoming a Community Safety Champion?

- Gaining valuable knowledge and skills to build your confidence in promoting community safety and crime prevention.
- Expanding your connections through networking opportunities with local police officers, fellow champions, and other community organisations and groups.
- Supporting your community in a meaningful way, feeling empowered as a local change maker, by helping to create safer neighbourhoods.
- Enhancing the capacity of your organisation, group, or club by gaining a suite of tools and resources to effectively engage your networks in community safety conversations.
- How do I join the program?
Simply complete the Expression of Interest to get started. Once your application is reviewed and approved, you will receive further information about the program.
Once registered in the program you are free to withdraw at any time.
