Minor's Licence

Minors Licence (Cat A, B, C or H) for Sport of Target Shooting

You have chosen to apply for a Minors Licence (Cat A, B, C or H) for Sport of Target Shooting. Minors licences are for people aged 11 to 17 inclusive and can be issued for categories A, B, C or H weapons. This is because of the limited nature of what the licence authorises, and because a minor cannot acquire a firearm.

To support your application, you will need to provide:

  1. Proof of address (Queensland Drivers Licence, rates notice or electricity bill).
  2. Your birth certificate, passport, learner’s permit or student ID card.
  3. Your statement of attainment for an approved firearms safety course, covering the category of weapon you’re applying for.
  4. A letter from a parent or guardian consenting to your use of firearms. Please ensure your parent or guardian includes their contact details on the letter.
  5. Details of any medical condition endorsed on your Queensland Drivers Licence.
  6. A current passport-quality photograph.

Please check the information below to find out whether you need to supply additional information.

For Category C

Please also provide:

  1. Proof of current financial membership of an approved Queensland shooting club for clay target shooting.
  2. A medical report from your doctor stating a physical need for a Category C shotgun for the sport of clay target shooting. For example, this could be due to a lack of strength or dexterity or because of a medical condition.

For Category H

Please also provide:

  1. A completed form QP518A (Approved Club Declaration, Queensland Applicant), completed by the club representative, stating that you have been a member of the club for at least six months and have participated in at least three handgun shooting competitions.
