If you are a victim-survivor of sexual violence and the Queensland Police Service (QPS) has made a decision about the investigation or prosecution of your matter, you may be able to request that this decision is reviewed under the QPS Right to Review.
Who can request a review?
A person who has experienced sexual violence and reported this to the QPS is considered a victim-survivor for the purposes of this policy and can request a review. Where the victim-survivor is unable to request a review or does not wish to complete the request themselves, there are some people who can request a review on their behalf:
- A parent or guardian for victim-survivors under 16 years or under legal guardianship;
- A support person of the victim-survivor, with the victim-survivor’s consent.
What decisions are reviewable?
A victim-survivor can request a review of four types of QPS decisions. These are called ‘relevant decisions’ and they are reviewable if they were made after the publication of this policy 2 March 2026. They are:
- A QPS decision not to charge a suspect, where a suspect has been identified, or
- A QPS decision to discontinue a charge or prosecution, or
- A QPS decision to unfound a matter (where there is evidence the offence did not occur), or
- A QPS decision to substantially change or reduce a charge.
How can I request a review?
There are multiple ways you can make a request for a QPS decision to be reviewed.
- Online: By completing the QPS online request form accessible at the bottom of this page.
- Email: By completing the paper form and emailing it to SexualViolenceReviews@police.qld.gov.au
Post: A paper copy of the online form can be printed and sent via post to:
Queensland Police Service

If you require access to the paper copy of the form, but are unable to access it please send a letter to the above address. This letter must include the:
- victim-survivor’s name;
- victim-survivor’s date of birth;
- relevant QPRIME number (where known);
- investigating officer’s name (where known);
- decision you wish to have reviewed; and
- reasons for the review.
Please ensure you include at least one method of return contact including phone number, email address or postal address so QPS can contact you about the request.
- In person: By going to your local police station where a QPS member will help you to complete the online form.
- By asking the investigating officer or police prosecutor: You may want to directly ask the investigating officer or prosecutor of your matter for a review of their decision. In these instances, you should complete the online or printed form with their help if required.
What are my support options?
The Queensland Police Service (QPS) acknowledges that victim-survivors of sexual violence may experience trauma and may feel anxious, unsafe, or worried because of the justice process. Whilst the policy does not contain specific or graphic details of sexual assault, victim-survivors may wish to read the policy with a support person. Localised and national supports are available and can be accessed by visiting the Queensland Government website which has a full list of these support services and how to contact them.
If you require an interpreter to complete the request form, please call 1800 512 451 (if you are in Australia) or +61 7 3022 6100 (if you are overseas) and ask for an interpreter in your preferred language. Please also provide these details in the request form and QPS will arrange an interpreter for you during the review process.
If you require any reasonable adjustments, please provide details in the request form.
