Is the firearm/weapon you are acquiring held by the registered owner? If you answer ‘Yes’:
Please ensure that the disposer has completed brokerage to obtain that weapon and all weapon details on your application are as per the weapon.
Is the firearm/weapon you are acquiring held by the registered owner? If you answer ‘No’:
If the weapon you intend to acquire is currently held with a licensee (dealer, police station, individual) other than the owner, you will be required to provide documentation that the sale is authorised by the registered owner.
If you are acquiring a firearm/weapon from a Dealer or Police station you must:
- provide the details of the Dealer or Police station currently safekeeping the firearm/weapon; and
- supply a Letter of Authority from the actual registered owner of the firearm/weapon.
If you are acquiring the firearm/weapon from a licensed individual you need to provide the details of the registered owner of the firearm/weapon.
A “Letter of Authority” is a signed letter from the registered owner confirming details of the firearm/weapon and authorising the sale and disposal of the nominated firearm/weapon.
Choosing the correct disposer type:
If you are acquiring a firearm/weapon from a dealer or an armourer (for Category R), you should ensure that you choose the correct radio button for ‘Dealer’.
If you are acquiring a firearm/weapon from a business (other than a dealer) or an individual, you should ensure that you choose the correct radio button for ‘Individual’.
If you are acquiring a firearm/weapon from interstate, all interstate weapons must be received into QLD by a licensed QLD dealer. Therefore you should choose the correct button for "Dealer" and advise of your chosen dealer's details.
If you are acquiring a firearm/weapon from overseas, you should choose the correct button for "overseas". Provide all details of the weapon and the overseas disposer.
Disposer location - Acquiring a weapon from overseas:
If you have selected an overseas disposer. Important note – You MUST apply for a B709 import permit (Police Confirmation and Certification Permit) in order to acquire this firearm/weapon.

Deceased estates
Firearms/Weapons may be transferred without the need for a permit to acquire if the licence holder acquiring the firearm/weapon is the beneficiary of a deceased estate.
Where the licence holder is not the beneficiary of the estate, they are required to make application for a permit to acquire for the firearm/weapon/s.
In both scenarios the licence holder is required to provide the following documentation:
- A full copy of the will;
- Copy of the death certificate;
- Completed Indemnity Receipt;
- Letter signed by the beneficiary (or all beneficiaries, if more than one (1) in the will) containing:
- Request to transfer the firearm/weapon/s to their licence or the acquirers licence;
- Licence details;
- Details of genuine reason for possessing each and every firearm that they wish to acquire;
- Details of the whereabouts of the firearm/weapon/s (firearms/weapons are not to be held in safekeeping with an acquirer) pending approval to acquire under this policy or via permit to acquire.
This documentation should be uploaded with your application for permit to acquire.
