Concealable firearms licence supporting documents

When you make application for a concealable firearms licence for one of the following genuine reasons, you must provide the supporting documents as listed under the relevant genuine reason below, with your application and as evidence of your genuine reason:  

Concealable sports or target shooting
Queensland applicant
  • Safety Course Certificate
  • Club declaration – Approved Club Declaration (QP518A) completed within 28 days from the date of lodgement signed by the club representative of an approved Queensland pistol club. 
Interstate applicant
  • Club declaration – Approved Club Declaration (QP518B) completed within 28 days from the date of lodgement signed by the club representative of an approved Queensland pistol club. 
    • Note: The applicant must have held a pistol licence interstate for 1 year (this includes a NSW probation licence) and have held interstate club membership for at least 6 months prior to application.
  • To add metallic silhouette or single action shooting

This will need to be provided with the hard copy (in-person lodgement) application as an additional genuine reason:

If adding PCM and/or PCS – A current dated and signed letter (on official letterhead) from the club representative/executive of an approved shooting club which is approved for these accredited events, certifying that the applicant wishes to participate in metallic silhouette competition (PCM) and/or single action competition (PCS).

Documentation required when renewing your Concealable Sports or Target licence:

  • Renewal Form 6A or 6B
  • Sports or Target Shooting  – Approved Club Declaration (QP518A) completed within 28 days from the date of lodgement of the renewal application by a pistol club representative/executive confirming the applicant holds current membership
  • Club Participation Shoots – A copy of your participation record for the period of your current licence to show compliance with Section 133 of the Weapons Act 1990.

Concealable primary producer

You must provide the following documents as evidence of your genuine reason for a Concealable Primary Producer licence:

  • A current safety course certificate is required if not already licenced for a concealable firearm. 

  • Completed Form 1 Annexure – Primary Producer. To prove current primary production on rural land with authorisation by the property owner/manager.

  • Evidence of property ownership:
    • If you are the owner of the property - A copy of the rates notice for property
    • If you are the lessee of the property - A copy of the lease agreement for property, or
    • If you are the manager of the property - A copy of the employment contract as manager and can act on the owner/lessee's behalf on the property.
  • Proof of occupation – Proof of sales (stock or crops), proof of purchase (hay, farming equipment, etc) 
  • Full colour photos – Photos depicting terrain, vegetation and access around the property.

If you wish to use weapons for an occupational reason for more than one rural address, this information is required for each address.

You will be required to establish why Category H firearms are necessary, and why firearms of another category will not be sufficient.

Please note: A concealable firearm is NOT supported for feral animal control or for use out of a helicopter. 

 

Before you apply for a Category H concealable firearms licence for primary production, there are a few things you need to know.

The Category H Information Sheet has all the information an Authorised Officer at Weapons Licensing must consider when making a decision on your application for a concealable firearms licence for primary production.

For further information about what type of safety course you need to complete for this type of licence

Documentation required when renewing your Concealable Primary Producer licence:

  • Renewal Form 6A or 6B

  • Completed Form 1 Annexure – Primary Producer. To prove current primary production on rural land with authorisation by the property owner/manager.

  • Evidence of property ownership:

    • If you are the owner of the property - A copy of the rates notice for property

      If you are the owner of the property - A copy of the rates notice for property

      If you are the owner of the property - A copy of the rates notice for property

      If you are the owner of the property - a copy of the rates notice for the property
    • If you are the lessee of the property - A copy of the lease agreement for property, or
    • If you are the manager of the property - A copy of the employment contract as manager and can act on the owner/lessee's behalf on the property.

  • Proof of occupation – Proof of sales (stock or crops), proof of purchase (hay, farming equipment, etc).

  • Full colour photos – Photos depicting terrain, vegetation and access around the property.

  • If secondary employment exists – percentage of time spend primarily engaged in Primary Production. 

 

If you wish to use weapons for an occupational reason for more than one rural address, this information is required for each address.

Concealable occupational - Rural employee

You must provide the following documents as evidence of your genuine reason for a Concealable Rural Employee licence:

  • A current safety course certificate is required if not already licenced for a concealable firearm. 

  • Rural Employer Confirmation – Completed Form 1 Annexure – Rural Employee to prove current rural employment by the property owner/manager.

  • Proof of occupation – Employer verification – To prove your employment on this rural land you must provide copies of three current and consecutive payslips from your employer.
  • Evidence of property ownership:
    • Owner of the property must provide a copy of the rates notice for property(s)
    • If you are the lessee of the property - A copy of the lease agreement for property, or
    • If you are the manager of the property - A copy of the employment contract as manager and can act on the owner/lessee's behalf on the property.
  • Full colour photos – Photos depicting terrain, vegetation and access around the property.

If you wish to use weapons for an occupational reason for more than one rural address, this information is required for each address.

Documentation required when renewing your Concealable Rural Employee licence:

  • Renewal Form 6A or 6B

  • Rural Employer Confirmation – Completed Form 1 Annexure – Rural Employee to prove current rural employment by the property owner/manager.

  • Proof of occupation – Employer verification – To prove your employment on this rural land you must provide copies of three current and consecutive payslips from your employer.

  • Evidence of property ownership:

    • If you are the lessee of the property - A copy of the lease agreement for property, or

Concealable occupational - Feral animal controller

You must provide the following documents as evidence of your genuine reason for a Concealable Occupational Feral Animal Controller licence:

  • A current safety course certificate is required if not already licenced for a concealable firearm. 

  • Completed Form 1 – Annexure for Occupational - Other

  • Letters of intent – Current and signed letters of intent from three (3) properties (e.g. area of intended work) to operate from to support the occupational genuine reason, including payment agreements and full property details (including Shire).
  • Proof of occupation – Accountant letter — Letter from your accountant stating you are registered with the Australian Tax Office as a feral animal controller.
  • Business registration certificate – Registered business name (ASIC extract)
  • Business plan – Copy of your business plan with business name including pages relevant to the following: Addressing Risk, Police Contact, Firearm Use and Community Safety
  • Business public liability insurance – Copy of your public liability insurance
  • Non-Rural Property Protection and Safety Documents – The inclusion of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) stating how you will operate. For example: risk assessment, contacting police, how the firearms are used with protection of property and safety of persons paramount.

You will be required to establish why Category H firearms are necessary, and why firearms of another category will not be sufficient.

If you are employed and your employer holds a group licence, please supply: 
  • A current dated and signed letter on business letterhead from your employer (of a company involve in feral animal control) outlining that the licence is required in the conduct of your occupation. Detailing your position held and describing the duties that require the use of weapons being necessary, which categories of weapons they are giving approval to you for, and the areas the employee will be working. The letter should include the group licence number, expiry date and endorsed categories.

For further information about what type of safety course you need to complete for this type of licence

Documentation required when renewing your Concealable Occupational Feral Animal Controller licence:

  • Renewal Form 6A or 6B

  • Completed Form 1 – Annexure for Occupational - Other

  • Letters of intent – Current and signed letters of intent from three (3) properties (e.g. area of intended work) to operate from to support the occupational genuine reason, including payment agreements and full property details (including Shire).

  • Proof of occupation – Accountant letter — Letter from your accountant stating you are registered with the Australian Tax Office as a feral animal controller.

  • Business registration certificate – Registered business name (ASIC extract)

  • Business plan – Copy of your business plan with business name including pages relevant to addressing Risk, Police Contact, Firearm Use and Community Safety

  • Business public liability insurance – Copy of your public liability insurance 

  • Non-Rural Property Protection and Safety Documents – The inclusion of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) stating how you will operate. For example: risk assessment, contacting police, how the firearms are used with protection of property and safety of persons paramount.

  • Proof of occupation – recent invoices to show services rendered.

Concealable military re-enactment / historical demonstration

You must provide the following documents as evidence of your genuine reason for a Concealable Military Re-Enactment/Historical Demonstration licence:

  • A current safety course certificate is required if not already licenced for a concealable firearm. 

  • Financial club membership – Military re-enactment – Proof of current financial membership of a recognised military re-enactment club/society. This proof is to clearly state your name and the expiry date of the membership, category of weapons required and must only be for the category of the weapons endorsed on your weapons licence.
  • Supporting letter – Stating the intended use for the firearms – Display or Discharge?

For further information about what type of safety course you need to complete for this type of licence

Documentation required when renewing your Concealable Military Re-Enactment/Historical Demonstration licence:

  • Renewal Form 6A or 6B

  • Financial club membership – Military re-enactment – Proof of current financial membership of a recognised military re-enactment club/society. This proof is to clearly state your name and the expiry date of the membership, category of weapons required and must only be for the category of the weapons endorsed on your weapons licence.

  • Supporting letter – Stating the intended use for the firearms – Display or Discharge?

Concealable occupational - Animal controller

You must provide the following documents as evidence of your genuine reason for a Concealable Occupational Animal Controller licence:

  • A current safety course certificate is required if not already licenced for a concealable firearm. 

  • Business/Employer letterhead – A current and signed letter on a business letterhead verifying:
  • Business plan – Copy of your business plan with business name – please only include pages relevant to the following: Addressing Risk, Police Contact, Firearm Use and Community Safety.
  • Business public liability insurance – Copy of your public liability insurance
  • Non-Rural Property Protection and Safety documents – The inclusion of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) stating how you will operate, For example: risk assessment, contacting police, how the firearms are used with protection of property and safety of persons paramount.

If you are the employee of an animal controller, your employer provides this information.

If you are employed and your employer holds a current group licence, please supply:  

  • A current dated and signed letter on business letterhead from your employer outlining that the licence is required in the conduct of your occupation. Detailing your position held and describing the duties that require the use of weapons being necessary, which categories of weapons they are giving approval to you for, and the areas the employee will be working. The letter should include the group licence number, expiry date and endorsed categories.

You will be required to establish why Category H firearms are necessary, and why firearms of another category will not be sufficient.

For further information about what type of safety course you need to complete for this type of licence

Documentation required when renewing your Concealable Occupational Animal Controller licence:

  • Renewal Form 6A or 6B

  • Business/Employer letterhead – A current and signed letter on a business letterhead verifying:

    • the reason(s) why firearms are necessary,

    • the position held by the applicant,

    • the category(s) of firearms required to use, and

    • the nature of the duties undertaken in the conduct of your business/occupation.

  • Business plan – Copy of your business plan with business name including pages relevant to the following: Addressing Risk, Police Contact, Firearm Use and Community Safety. 

  • Business public liability insurance – Copy of your public liability insurance

  • Non-Rural Property Protection and Safety documents – The inclusion of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) stating how you will operate, For example: risk assessment, contacting police, how the firearms are used with protection of property and safety of persons paramount.

Concealable aviation - Security officer

You must provide the following documents as evidence of your genuine reason for a Concealable Aviation Security Officer licence:

  • A current safety course certificate is required if not already licenced for a concealable firearm 

  • Business/Employer letterhead – A current and signed letter on a business letterhead verifying:
    • the reason(s) why firearms are necessary
    • the position held by the applicant
    • the category of firearms required to use and,
    • the nature of the duties undertaken in the conduct of your business/occupation.

For further information about what type of safety course you need to complete for this type of licence

Documentation required when renewing your Concealable Aviation Security Officer licence:

  • Renewal Form 6A or 6B

  • Business/Employer letterhead – A current and signed letter on a business letterhead verifying:
  • the reason(s) why firearms are necessary
  • the position held by the applicant
  • the category of firearms required to use, and
  • the nature of the duties undertaken in the conduct of your business/occupation.
Concealable occupational - Government service entity

You must provide the following documents as evidence of your genuine reason for a Concealable Government Service Entity Employee licence:

  • A current safety course certificate is required if not already licenced for a concealable firearm 

  • Government Service Entity Verification – A current and signed letter on letterhead from your employer, verifying that you are employed by a Government Service Entity outlining the category(s) and duties for which the firearms are necessary.

For further information about what type of safety course you need to complete for this type of licence

Documentation required when renewing your Concealable Government Service Entity Employee licence:

  • Renewal Form 6A or 6B

  • Government Service Entity Verification – A current and signed letter on letterhead from your employer, verifying that you are employed by a Government Service Entity outlining the category(s) and duties for which the firearms are necessary.

Concealable occupational - Veterinary surgeon/nurse

You must provide the following documents as evidence of your genuine reason for a Conealable Occupational - Veterinary Surgeon/Nurse licence:

  • Safety Course Certificate – A current safety course certificate is required if not already licenced for a concealable firearm

  • Business/Employer letterhead – A current and signed letter on a business letterhead verifying:
    • the reason(s) why firearms are necessary
    • the position held by the applicant
    • the category(s) of firearms required to use and,
    • the nature of the duties undertaken in the conduct of your business/occupation.
  • Business plan – Copy of your business plan with business name – please only include pages relevant to the following: Addressing Risk, Police Contact, Firearm Use and Community Safety the reason why firearms are necessary the position held by the applicant the category of firearms required to use and, the nature of the duties undertaken in the conduct of your business/occupation.
  • Business public liability insurance – Copy of your public liability insurance
  • Veterinary Surgeons Board – Provide a copy of your current annual registration with the Veterinary Surgeons Board of Queensland; showing that you are the holder of a recognised veterinary degree.
  • Business Registration Certificate including the ASIC extract detailing the officeholders of the company. 

Please note: If you are acting as an agent of the veterinary surgeon e.g. vet nurse, this information is provided by the registered vet. 

You will be required to establish why Category H firearms are necessary, and why firearms of another category will not be sufficient.

For further information about what type of safety course you need to complete for this type of licence

Documentation required when renewing your Concealable Occupational – Veterinary Surgeon/Nurse licence:

  • Renewal Form 6A or 6B

  • Business plan – Copy of your business plan with business name including addressing Risk management, Police Contact, Firearm Use and Community Safety

  • Business public liability insurance – Copy of your public liability insurance

  • Veterinary Surgeons Board – Provide a copy of your current annual registration with the Veterinary Surgeons Board of Queensland; showing that you are the holder of a recognised veterinary degree.

  • Business Registration Certificate including the ASIC extract detailing the officeholders of the company. 

  • Business/Employer letterhead – A current and signed letter on a business letterhead verifying:

    • the reason(s) why firearms are necessary,

    • the position held by the applicant,

    • the category(s) of firearms required to use, and

    • the nature of the duties undertaken in the conduct of your business/occupation.
