National Police Certificate

The National Police Certificate is based on a search of the person’s name against the criminal history records held by police services Australia-wide. This is most often sought for employment, study or overseas travel visa purposes.

You can apply for a National Police Certificate either online or in person. Online applications include online payment, ID verification and delivery. Applications that do not require any further investigation can be completed within an hour. To apply online, click the button below.

To apply in person, you must complete the online application and attend an Australia Post outlet with sufficient proof of identity, your completed online application form and payment. If you cannot apply online or at an Australia Post outlet, please contact us.

Applications in person and those which contain disclosable criminal history will be issued a hardcopy certificate. Any applications which require further investigation generally take 5-10 working days, plus postal delivery time. If your application was made more than 20 working days ago, if you are experiencing problems submitting an application or if your received certificate contains an error, please contact us.
