Firearms Licence (Cat A, B, C & D)

You have chosen to apply for a Firearms Licence (Cat A, B, C & D) for Occupational Purposes in a Government Service Entity. To support your application you will need to provide:

  1. Proof of address (Queensland Drivers Licence, rates notice or electricity bill).
  2. Your statement of attainment for an approved firearms safety course, covering the category of weapon you’re applying for.
  3. A letter from your employer to verifying you are employed by a Government Service Entity. The letter should outline the duties for which firearms are necessary and the categories of firearms required.
  4. Details of any medical condition endorsed on your Queensland Drivers Licence.
  5. A current passport-quality photograph.

Additional Information

A Government Service Entity can include a department of the State Government; a museum operated by the State or Commonwealth Government; or another entity that:

  1. is established under an Act or under State authorisation for a public or State purpose; or
  2. is engaged by the State or a Government Service Entity to provide a service; but
  3. does not include the Queensland Police Service.

Government Service Entities include bodies such as Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, Department of Environment and Heritage Protection and Department of National Parks, Sport and Racing.

To make sure that your application is assessed as quickly as possible it is important that the information you supply to us is correct and complete, and that your supporting documentation is uploaded to your application or forwarded to Weapons Licensing within 28 days from submitting the online application. You are strongly encouraged to contact your local club or dealer about assisting you to complete your licence application, and to ensure the required documentation is submitted. If your application does not meet our requirements it could be refused or there could be substantial delays while we seek further information from you.

Please be advised that this online service can only be used for the purpose of applying for a NEW licence. If you are an existing Weapons Licence holder you can use the online forms to apply for an additional type of Weapons Licence otherwise, if you want to renew your Weapons Licence please see the renewals section for information on how to do this.
