Equity
Equity means creating a fair and supportive workplace where everyone has equal access to opportunities and resources to succeed. We are committed to addressing barriers and fostering an environment that ensures all employees can thrive.
Diversity
Diversity means a workforce that reflects the broader community that we serve. We value each persons ability to contribute their unique experiences to the workplace fostering an environment where everyone feels respected and can contribute their unique perspective.
Inclusion
Inclusion means creating a workplace where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to contribute. We promote a culture of belonging, where every individual is encouraged to participate fully.
Respect
Respect is the foundation of how we interact with one another and the communities we serve. At QPS, we are committed to treating everyone with dignity, fairness, and kindness, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
At QPS, we are proud to support a range of employee networks that celebrate and champion diversity and inclusion within our organisation. We believe in the power of connection and collaboration. These networks include our First Nations, Accessibility Advisory, Multicultural, Leading Women and Pride networks, each providing a platform for connection, advocacy, and empowerment. They foster a sense of belonging, promote understanding, and drive positive change by amplifying the voices of underrepresented communities. Through these networks, we continue to build a workplace where everyone feels valued, respected, and supported to thrive.
First Nations Network
The First Nations Network aims to promote and maintain effective relationships with Queensland’s diverse communities based on open communication, mutual understanding, respect, tolerance, and trust.
The objectives of the First Nations Networks are:
- Welfare & Cultural Support of members
- Professional Development of members
- Recruitment and Retention First Nations Members
Accessibility Advisory Network
We improve opportunities in the QPS for the employment of people who have permanent or progressive hearing, vision, mobility or other impairments by providing advice, education, engagement and connections.
- Disability advocacy – safeguard human rights, support individuals with disabilities and people with disabled family members.
- Systemic advocacy – influence positive changes to policy and practices by raising awareness, providing support and educating staff in relation to disability issues – particularly employment.
Multicultural Network
The Multicultural Network aims to promote, drive and advocate for cultural inclusion and cultural capability with the QPS by providing a dedicated network for Service members state-wide. The Multicultural Network was established in 2021. Its objectives are to:
- Provide a culturally safe and inclusive platform to engage and support culturally and linguistically diverse QPS members.
- Increase organisational cultural capability through sharing of knowledge, referrals, information and resources on culturally specific matters, events and protocols.
- Provide support, guidance, mentorship, and advocacy for culturally and linguistically diverse QPS members.
- Raise awareness, celebrate cultural diversity and champion inclusion within the QPS.
The activities of the Multicultural Network also align with the Service’s ongoing commitments under the Queensland Multicultural Action Plan, QPS Strategic Plan and the QPS Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Plan. (find all reports here)
Leading Women Network
The Leading Women Network aims to promote a diverse and inclusive work environment through the representation of women in all levels of workplaces by providing professional development and networking opportunities targeting women and a forum to raise common issues to the senior executive members of partner agencies.
The LWN was established in 2019. Its purpose is:
- To build and embed a diverse and inclusive work environment and culture where women can fully contribute and thrive by identifying and addressing barriers to equality and inclusiveness and providing professional development and networking opportunities targeting women.
- To provide a cross-agency forum to collaborate on solutions and advocate for change to systemic barriers to equity, equality and inclusiveness.
- Create opportunities for personal and professional development.
- Offer a supportive ‘safe place’ network to share experiences and build confidence amongst public safety and integrity agency women.
Pride Network (LGBTIQA+)
The aim of the QPS Pride Network is to promote Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer and Asexual + (LGBTIQA+) pride within the QPS by providing a dedicated support framework to Service members state-wide.
- The QPS Pride Network aims to promote the QPS as an employer that embraces workplace inclusion and diversity.
- Encourage communication between Service members and the network (non-urgent matters) by using email address.
- Be a resource tool and support Service members through advice and guidance utilising estabr5dclished reference material, including mutually agreed follow up engagement.
- Where appropriate, the coordinator of the network will nominate a LGBTIQA+ support officer(s) to engage (preferably in person where possible depending on location and situation) with the Service member(s) seeking the assistance.
- Coordinate and monitor progress of Service members seeking assistance from the network.
- Provide Service members with internal and external support mechanisms where appropriate.
