If you are physically injured, we recommend that you attend your local hospital for treatment. If you are significantly injured, please call Triple Zero (000) and request an ambulance.
You may want to attend your GP or other medical practitioner for advice and treatment. These specialists can provide information and advice on possible unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
You have the right to deny medical treatment at any time. Victim-survivors also have the right to request a female doctor and/or trauma-informed specialist.
If you have been sexually assaulted, you may choose to complete a Forensic Medical Examination. You can find more information about this on our Forensic Medical Examination page.
As well as your physical health, it is also important to look after your psychological and emotional wellbeing. Counselling and supports are a useful tool in healing from a sexual assault. There are services available in Queensland who can help:
- Call 13 HEALTH for localised information to your area
- Call the statewide sexual assault helpline on 1800 010 120
- Call the sexual assault and domestic violence support helpline 1800 RESPECT or 1800 737 732 (available 24 hours)
- Queensland Health Sexual Assault contacts, available through the Queensland Health website
- Contact your local GP or medical centre
