Important changes

Self-Assessment Tool – Eligibility to hold a weapons licence. The Qld Community Safety Act has amended the Weapons Act 1990 (Qld) and inserted new eligibility requirements to hold a weapons licence. This information sheet provides advice on the changes to assist you to self-assess your eligibility to hold a weapons licence. The self-assessment tool is a resource that initially helps you to determine how well you meet the eligibility requirements to hold a weapons licence. The results of the self-assessment does not determine whether or not you will be granted a weapons licence.

  • New laws are being introduced that may impact your eligibility to apply for or to hold a Weapons Licence under the Weapons Act 1990 (Qld).

  • Use this form to check if these changes affect you:
1. Have you in the last ten (10) years in Queensland or elsewhere, been convicted of a Class A serious offence which includes:*
  • murder
  • manslaughter
  • grievous bodily harm
  • wounding; or
  • robbery

2. Have you in the last ten (10) years in Queensland or elsewhere, been convicted of a Class B serious offence which is an offence listed in the link below.*

3. Have you in the last five (5) years in Queensland or elsewhere, been convicted of a Class C serious offence which is an offence that:*
  • Relates to the misuse of drugs; or
  • Involves the use or threatened use of violence; or
  • Involves the carriage, discharge, possession, or use of a weapon.

4. Are you a reportable offender under the Child Protection (Offender Reporting and Offender Prohibition Order) Act 2004?*

5. Are you or have you ever been subject to a Firearms Prohibition order in Queensland or elsewhere?*

6. Are you or have you ever been subject to an order under the Dangerous Prisoners (Sexual Offenders) Act 2003?*

7. Are you or have you ever been convicted of committing:*

You have answered yes to one or more of the questions above. As a result, you may be ineligible to hold a QLD weapons licence.
