Concealable Licence (Cat H) for Primary Production

You have chosen to apply for a Concealable Licence (Cat H) for Primary Production. To support your application, you will need to provide:

  1. Proof of address (preferably a rates notice or electricity bill).
  2. Your statement of attainment for an approved firearms safety course, covering the category of weapon you’re applying for.
  3. A signed permission letter from the property owner or manager, dated within the past 12 months. The letter should outline the details of your employment on the property and explain why weapons are required.
  4. A clear explanation of why a Category H firearm is needed , and the need can’t be satisfied in another way. This could include (but is not limited to):
    1. Information about the methods used to eradicate pests
    2. Details of other firearms used on the property, and why they are not suitable for this purpose
    3. Details of the property size and stock type
    4. Details of the terrain or circumstances that make other weapon categories insufficient
    5. Land management through Department of Primary Industries, steps undertaken i.e. trapping or baiting. The applicant must clearly indicate the need for firearms and why the need cannot be satisfied in another way.
    6. Details of any other licence holders using weapons at the property.
  5. Information about how long you have owned/occupied the property and, if you do not reside on the property, how often you attend the property and how long your visits are.
  6. Information about your occupation as a primary producer and whether or not you are engaged in other forms of employment:
    1. Is primary production your sole source of income?
    2. If not, what other forms of employment are you engaged in? Please provide details about your other employers, and the hours and location of employment.
  7. Details of any medical condition endorsed on your Queensland Drivers Licence.
  8. A current passport-quality photograph.

Additional information

  • If you are a lessee, provide a copy of the lease.
  • If you also wish to perform the sport of target shooting at an approved shooting club, please view the requirements under the genuine reason ‘Sport of Target Shooting’.

You are strongly encouraged to contact your local club or dealer about assisting you to complete your licence application, and to ensure the required documentation is submitted. If your application does not meet our requirements it could be refused or there could be substantial delays while we seek further information from you.
