Firearms Licence (Cat A, B, C & D)

To apply for a Firearms Licence (Cat A, B, C & D) for Primary Production you will need to provide:

  1. Proof of address (rates notice or electricity bill are preferred);
  2. Statement of Attainment for an approved Firearms Safety Course, for the categories of weapons applied for.;
  3. Permission, signed and dated by a property owner/manager within the past 12 months, stating the reason why the weapons are required and details of employment on the property.);
  4. Information about your occupation as a primary producer and whether or not you are engaged in other forms of employment
    1. Is primary production your sole source of income;
    2. If no, what other forms of employment are you engaged in, please provide details about your employer, hours and location of employment.
  5. Current passport-quality photograph.

For Category C (for each property):

  1. Proof that there is a significant animal/vermin infestation problem on the property/ies and details of other methods of control/eradication that have been tried and have proven unsuccessful;
  2. Information about how long you have owned/occupied the property and, if you do not reside on the property, how often you attend the property;
  3. Details of why the possession and use of a Category C firearm is now necessary and why the use of a firearm of another category is not possible;
  4. Details of any other Category C licence holders on the property (if there are others, state why another licence of this type is necessary).

For Category D (for each property):

  1. Proof that there is a significant animal/vermin infestation problem on the property/ies and details of other methods of control/eradication that have been tried and have proven unsuccessful;
  2. Information about how long you have owned/occupied the property and, if you do not reside on the property, how often you attend the property;
  3. Details of why the possession and use of a Category D firearm is now necessary and why the use of a firearm of another category is not possible;
  4. Details of land management activities to manage or control the problem the Management through the Department of Primary Industries and steps undertaken, ie. trapping or baiting
  5. Details of any other Category D licence holders on the property (if there are others, state why another licence of this type is necessary);
  6. The proposed area of use. Example: details of all properties owned and managed;

Additional information:

  1. If you are a lessee, provide a copy of the lease;
  2. If you intend to control protected fauna such as birds or kangaroos, provide a copy of a Damage Mitigation Permit.

To make sure that your application is assessed as quickly as possible it is important that the information you supply to us is correct and complete, and that your supporting documentation is uploaded to your application or forwarded to Weapons Licensing within 28 days from submitting the online application. You are strongly encouraged to contact your local club or dealer about assisting you to complete your licence application, and to ensure the required documentation is submitted. If your application does not meet our requirements it could be refused or there could be substantial delays while we seek further information from you.

Please be advised that this online service can only be used for the purpose of applying for a NEW licence.
