Security Licence (Guard) – Business

Security Licence (Business) - (Cat H)

You have chosen to apply for a Security Licence (Business) - (Cat H). This licence is for people seeking to protect their own property, it does not permit the licensee to engage in security services for other people. This type of licence does not authorise the contracting or sub–contracting of duties with another security organisation or licensee. To support your application you will need to provide the following:

  1. Proof of address (Queensland Drivers Licence, rates notice or electricity bill).
  2. Your statement of attainment issued within the last 12 months from a Registered Training Organisation as proof of successful completion of the (CPP30411 Certificate III in Security Operations) consisting of the following units of competency:
    1. Manage conflict through negotiation
    2. Determine response to security risk situation
    3. Maintain security of environment
    4. Control security risk situations using firearms (this module must be completed for the specific categories of firearms sought; e.g. categories C, E or H, revolver and/or semi-automatic).
  3. A copy of the registered business or company name providing details of the type of enterprise (e.g. sole proprietor or partnership, etc), including the extract detailing the office holders of the business/company.
  4. Advice as to the risks you have identified and what action has been taken to reduce these risks.
  5. Advice as to incidents you have been involved with either directly or indirectly.
  6. An outline of any other alternative measures that may be available other than the issue of a licence of this type.
  7. Details addressing why your need to possess a weapon is greater than the need to ensure public safety.
  8. Details of how the carriage of a loaded weapon in public will reduce the risk to the community and yourself.
  9. Details of current security measures relevant to the protection of the valuables. This may include security at a place (e.g. residence) or during transport.
  10. Details of the security organisation currently protecting the valuables.
  11. Advice as to the banking facilities used and the frequency of this banking.
  12. Advice as to why alternate security or business practices cannot be used.
  13. Details of any special circumstances that support the application for this licence (e.g. isolation, disability).
  14. Verification of the property/valuables being protected. Evidence may include:
    1. Copies of bank statements;
    2. Copies of invoices / receipts relating to the sale or purchase of property/stock which is being protected; and
    3. Other documents confirming the said property (eg. asset statements).
  15. A description of the business activities where the weapon is required. This should include the following details:
    1. When the weapon will be in possession;
    2. Where the weapon will be in possession; and
    3. How often the weapon will be in possession.
  16. A description of the facilities in place for the storage of weapons, including details of the safe/vault location, construction and weight.
  17. Provide details of any medical condition endorsed on your Queensland Drivers Licence.
  18. Current passport-quality photograph.

To make sure that your application is assessed as quickly as possible it is important that the information you supply to us is correct and complete, and that your supporting documentation is uploaded to your application or forwarded to Weapons Licensing within 28 days from submitting the online application. You are strongly encouraged to contact your local club or dealer about assisting you to complete your licence application, and to ensure the required documentation is submitted. If your application does not meet our requirements it could be refused or there could be substantial delays while we seek further information from you.
