Application Process

Once applications close, the Panel Chair will email all applicants introducing themselves and the composition of the Panel, outlining the recruitment principles, shortlisting, and assessment dates.

Shortlisting

The selection panel will review your application for your eligibility and suitability against the requirements of the position. After shortlisting the panel may contact you and invite you to participate in the next selection activity.

Assessment

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an assessment either via email or a phone call. if the assessment is an interview, it may include behavioural, competency or technical questions. The selection panel could also invite you to deliver a presentation or conduct problem solving exercises.

The panel may choose to utilise additional selection activities, such as skill sample test, work portfolio, job knowledge test, or presentation.

Interview checklist

❎ Workplace adjustment – We can assist, please call the vacancy contact and request assistance to facilitate the interview process as required e.g. wheelchair access, sign language, interpreter etc.

❎ Plan how you will get to the interview – make sure you leave enough time. Ask the panel chair how to access the building.

❎ Ensure you are prepared by reading more about the organisation and reviewing the role description.

❎ Think through the questions the panel might ask you about how your experience reflects the key accountabilities of the role description.

❎ Think about the questions you would like to ask the panel in advance of your interview. You might want to know more about the role, working conditions, team culture, expectations and who you will be working with.

Referee Checks and Screening

The selection panel will conduct referee checks on the nominated applicant/s. We will confirm your referees with you, referees will be asked to comment on your work performance or verify any claims made by you in your application or at interview.

  • One of your referees should be your current supervisor, but if that is not possible, then your immediate past supervisor. We may also ask you to nominate other referees.

The QPS will initiate screening with a criminal history and integrity check on the most suitable applicant/s.

Job Offer/ Feedback

The panel will determine your eligibility and suitability for the role utilising several selection techniques. If you are the eligible most suited candidate/s a verbal offer will be made, followed by a written offer of employment. 

Unsuccessful applicants will receive an email at the end of the recruitment process. You may request formal feedback from the Panel Chair once the selection process has been completed.

  • Emails - Any email correspondence from us should come from the Queensland Police domain ‘@police.qld.gov.au’ or ‘@smartjobs.qld.gov.au’. Similarly, any links to online information should go to a Queensland Government URL (ending with ‘qld.gov.au’).
  • Phone calls - Caller ID or smartphones may display our calls as unknown or from a private number. Hiring managers will identify themselves and the reason for the call.
