Wide load travel restrictions

Travel restrictions are set out by the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR).

Certain curfews apply to various council areas and can be determined by checking the TMR Conditions Database for the intended route of a wide load. State-wide curfews apply during the Easter and Christmas periods to minimise the risk to the general public.

Easter 2026

All over dimensional vehicles or combination loads - no travel between 12.01am Thursday 2 April 2026 and 11.59pm Tuesday 7 April 2026.

Christmas period 2026/27

An oversize vehicle or combination that requires more than one pilot, or escort vehicle, is not permitted to travel between 12.01am Friday 18 December 2026 and 11.59pm Saturday 2 January 2027.

All other oversize vehicles or combinations - no travel between 12.01am Thursday 24 December 2026 and 11.59pm Saturday 2 January 2027

Wide loads travelling between 4 and 8 of January 2027 requiring a QPS escort will need to be applied for by 14 December and finalised by Monday 21 December 2026
