The Queensland Police Service (QPS) operates within a complex legal environment, managing significant legal risk across all areas of its operations. The Office of the General Counsel ensures the QPS maintains a robust and integrated legal framework to support its operational and strategic priorities.
The Office is responsible for delivering strategic and authoritative legal advice on highly complex and sensitive matters, including those involving significant financial, reputational and operational risk. This advice supports the Commissioner and Executive in decision-making, policy development and the delivery of organisational objectives.
The Office of the General Counsel also provides expert advice on legislative matters impacting the QPS and works collaboratively with internal stakeholders and external providers, including Crown Law, to ensure high-quality and timely legal outcomes.
